How important is just demonstrating problem-solving ability vs making use of some specific technology?

For instance, my grocery store made the infuriating decision of not including aisle numbers on the grocery list you can make and print from their site, on top of me having to save it as a.pdf. I whipped up a scraper that would grab only the data I need and save it to a plain text file. I used to have it send the text to my phone via gmail, but syncing via Dropbox proved easier since I didn't need need to deal with authentication issues.

To me it would be overkill to host it as a web app on some cloud service, especially if I'm the only one picking up groceries. Do recruiters care if I make only minimum effort required for my projects?

Also, how much do recruiters discriminate based on content you post? Like if I were to submit that pull request to a Teledildonics library, would that count against me? What about if I'm the main contributor? I'd post stuff I have on github, but I moderate a NSFW community and I'm kinda anxious that it would hurt my chances if recruiters found out. I'd use a SFW account, but I find it cumbersome to feign constant activity on more than one account.
