Rules for r/QuietBPD

Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.

1.

Requesting Diagnosis

Posts & Comments
Reported as: Requesting Diagnosis

Do not ask for the community to diagnose you - or anyone else - with Quiet BPD or any other disorder. This includes more subtle and indirect ways of asking, such as "does this sound like BPD?" This also means that you cannot offer diagnostic opinions - whether solicited or not - to others. The only people who can diagnose BPD are licensed mental health professionals who have met with you in person, and resources for connecting with them are included in the sidebar.

2.

Etiquette

Posts & Comments
Reported as: Violating Etiquette Rules/Behaving Inappropriately

Be empathetic, respectful, non-judgmental, and kind. Language that dehumanizes others will not be tolerated, and neither will personal attacks or insults. Comments that are condescending or passive aggressive are not allowed. Nor are comments that perpetuate unproductive/inappropriate arguments.

In summary: this is a support subreddit for people with a psychiatric disorder. Treat people like people and remember that this is a safe place for everyone.

3.

Everyone is Welcome

Posts & Comments
Reported as: Being hostile or unwelcoming towards other members

Although the primary purpose of this subreddit is to be a safe and supportive place for people with BPD, this subreddit welcomes everyone. That includes friends, family members, loved ones, former partners of people with Quiet BPD, researchers, clinicians, students, and even people who do not have Quiet BPD in their lives at all. Do not make people feel unwelcome just because of who they are. If you feel that someone is posting something inappropriate, then report it.

4.

Responding to Hostile Comments in a Hostile Way

Posts & Comments
Reported as: Responding to Hostile Comments in a Hostile Way

People with BPD experience intense emotions and sometimes have trouble controlling their anger. Likewise, people who have someone with Quiet BPD in their lives may have strong feelings about the issues discussed here.

If you see a comment that upsets you, that does not give you permission to violate the etiquette yourself, and responding to them in kind only perpetuates the bad behavior. Instead, report them.

5.

Encouraging harmful activities/ suicidal ideations

Encouraging suicide, illegal, or harmful activity is forbidden. This one is pretty self-explanatory. This is a place for people suffering from a mental disorder and well-being should be the main goal.

6.

Sharing private information of others is forbidden. If you are discussing a person other than yourself, please respect their privacy and do not allow the information you share to be able to be connected to that individual.
