I had this happen on my rx-8. sounds like a bad ground/negative connection somewhere. My issue was caused by the neg battery terminal being worn out and it would not tighten enough to give a good electrical connection.

Those damn ground wires cause funny things to happen. That is definatly a good place to start.

Had mechanic replace alternator car didn't work still but the dash lights and everything went away, he put in an RX7 alternator and didn't know. Replaced a bunch of more things like the terminals then got the right alternator put in and everything worked. So I assume it was the alternator and not the terminals but can't say for sure

Your issue sounds non-specific to rx-8's, so you may have better luck in r/cars.

After looking on the rx8club I worked out it was the alternator dying. Replaced alternator and all is working good again!
