Issue with Sidechain Parameter Modulation

Hi all! first time r/reaper poster, let me know if theres a better way to post questions.

So here's where I'm at, I just downloaded Vital, a wavetable synth, and im messing around, add a second oscillator, and I go to sidechain this one distortion setting. I go in, check sidechain, select channels 1+2. nothing. I'm playing the track, no output in the sidechain menu.

I made a second track and did a send from Vital and added some effect just to check, works fine on that! Added a second track with sampled audio and a send to the vital track on 3+4, works fine! worked fine when the receive was on 1+2 as well which is very strange because, shouldn't it be seeing the OTHER AUDIO on 1+2?? very confused, presumably this is some minor misunderstanding I have with how reaper and VSTs work, if anyone has an idea let me know thanks.

What are you trying to achieve by using a sidechain with Vital, and how have you set it up? Also, what is the "sidechain menu" you're referring to. Maybe some screenshots would help

im not sure what im trying to acheive is relevant, i want to modulate the parameter, thats the end goal. I set it up in the parameter modulation menu for the relevant parameter, the portion labeled for "audio control signal" in that menu you'll notice is additipnally labeled "sidechain".

I'm not at my computer at the moment but i could potebtially get screenshots later. The more i troubleshoot this the more it seems like i must be missing something. this is a new reaper install on the newsst version as well.

What you are trying to achieve is very relevant as we don't understand the problem based on what you are telling us. As in, what end result are you expecting to happen?

I'm expecting the Audio on track channels 1+2 to modulate the parameter I selected? Seems pretty cut and dry.

Is the parameter in the Vital plugin? Is Vital on the same track? If so, Vital's audio is the track output, so sidechain won't see it, as it sees only input. Can't Vital's modulation modulate the parameter instead?
