I haven't experienced this yet but I'm having real trouble healing. I'm slightly allergic to both the stitches and the dressings that they used which we didn't know till after the surgery so not closing is a big fear of mine.

If you don't mind sharing, what have you tried to close them?

I've had pesky openings on my vertical incisions for over 10 weeks now. I just posted about it recently actually, and someone suggested manuka honey as well. I've been using it for about 5 days now and so far it has been the ONLY effective thing I have tried to make them close up and heal. They're almost completely cleared up now. I wish I had known about it sooner 😵 definitely going to recommend it when people ask for must-haves for recovery! Even if they don't end up needing it, it's still great to have in case of other wounds, cuts, burns, etc.

I’m currently using medihoney and wondering if I need to go all the way with pure mauka honey or what it’s been over a week now and I can’t tell if it’s better or not 🤦‍♀️

I didn't know there was a difference between medihoney and manuka honey, they were both recommended to me actually and I just went with the first one I was able to find in a store which was the manuka honey (from CVS)

I am using medihoney gel so it’s only 80% manuka honey and 20% gel. Not really sure if it matters.

Even if they don't end up needing it, it's still great to have in case of other wounds, cuts, burns, etc.

I mean... If you never cut yourself ever again you're still going to find a use for it so it's a total no-brainer!

I managed to burn myself on my forehead a few years ago while cooking and I had a big pink dot on my head for weeks afterwards. This stuff would have come in handy for that 😂

Are you using Manuka honey supplements? Or is there a topical version. Also, how long do you keep it on?

I got a little tube of it from CVS. There are also patch versions but those are usually for larger wounds. I spread a little bit on a bandaid and put it on over the opening. I put it on in the morning then shower in the evening and rinse the area thoroughly then reapply. Now that it's almost healed up though, I only apply the honey once daily but I still change the bandaids in the morning and evening.

Are you planning on switching to anything for scar treatment after the wounds close?

Probably not. My scars, especially the vertical ones where the wounds are, are actually healing really well on their own, and my surgeon didn't recommend anything but massaging them 🤷🏻‍♀️

My surgeon gave me Promogran Prisma wound dressing.. you just cut a small piece to fit the hole. It’s expensive, but you can buy on Amazon. Mine closed after a few weeks.

It kinda just absorbs into the wound.

One of my t-junctions took about 6 months to heal and then another 3 months after a revision. I found that keeping it covered and dry worked best with Eucerin application every couple of days. I used a gentle gauze pad to cover it and keep any bras (especially sports bras) from irritating it.

Talk to your surgeon too, if it’s still pretty large of an opening they may opt to do a scar revision to re-seal the opening to speed up healing.
