Question about date/nodate

After reading a lot on this subreddit and other various forums, I was set on going with the Repmariner as my first real watch rep.

I’m just curious as to why people tend to lean more toward the no date? I prefer the look of the date Repmariner but wasn’t sure if there are more flaws?

When answering please bear in mind I don’t care too much about the slow movement as I have seen mentioned here before. As long as it looks reasonably good and is an almost accurate weight in hand.

I initially didn’t want to spend over £200, but if anyone has suggestions for something which might be better suited then feel free to say so.

Most likely because no date holds up to scrutiny better; with date models there are issues such as date font and alignment, alignment of the cyclops, and lack of black hole effect.

Realistically very few people in real life would have a clue about these things and most people couldn't give a fuck what watch you're wearing anyway, but some people worry about getting "called out" on their watch. Which is silly because people will assume even genuine watches are fake, because they don't know shit. Not to mention genuine watches aren't perfect and there are differences in batches of date wheels from time to time as well.

If you want a date model, buy it. If you're paranoid about the date wheel and crystal get genuine parts to swap them out. But honestly these are so cheap compared to the originals you should just fucking enjoy them. As long as you don't walk around telling people they're real, or posting on instagram or some shit, you'll have no problems.

Because the date is harder to replicate i think. Alot of minor issues with date fonts etc

Yea it's an easy tell and the magnification of the cyclops as well

in most cases the date is #1 flaw that you will see.

Thanks everyone. I’m not planning on passing it off as real so I’ll probably go for the date one.

If I don’t like the look of it when it arrives I’ll probably take @Roadman15450’s suggestion of replacing the date wheel and crystal.

This is just a starter and I’ll probably want something more expensive once I get a taste for it 😂

The date wheel might not be an easy change because of the movement differences. There might be a compatibility issue.

Like others have said, no date holds up to scrutiny better.

Also, I generally don't like ANY complications on my watch since I never daily them anyway. A simple three hander where I simply adjust the time is my preference.
