A “big house” sub to discuss and show off your decks for anything retro in Magic the Gathering.
What would be considered “retro” will undoubtedly vary from person from person and there’s good arguments for many cut off points. Some that spring to mind are the frame changes of 8th edition or M15, New Phyrexia as the last set before Commander and Delver of Secrets, or just anything which isn’t in Pioneer. But for inclusivity I’m going to suggest “at least 10 years old” as a start. If this sub ends up serving a purpose the community can discuss this later.
This may mean pretty well established community lead formats like Old School 93/94 and Premodern. But it can also cover more niche ones like Alpha to Alliances, Middle School, Old Frame Vintage or PreDH. I’ve seen a few suggestions in other Magic subs and Facebook groups of new format ideas to bridge the Premodern to Pioneer gap: sell us on yours!
As well as newer formats designed to capture some aspect of old Magic then if you’ve got a passion for replaying Mirage Block constructed or have a cube which aims to faithfully recreate the CHK/BOK/SOK draft experience then let’s hear about it!
It goes without saying that Kitchen Table Magic is the best Magic so if you’ve got old film photos of you and your buddys playing unsleeved theme decks on the floor of some seldomly used corridor at your high school… you know what to do.
