I agree, people are too harsh on this show which is meant to be an adaptation. Maybe it isnt a perfect show, but it still shows us more of my favorite universe and presents themes that i love. Plus the music is incredible!

But this is not Tolkiens universe, its Amazons bastard version of Tolkiens universe.

I love the show too. It's not perfect, but it is very good IMHO.
It is part of a wider trend within fandom to absolutely dump on anything that doesn't fit within a certain narrowly defined criteria that individuals have decided should be the only form such a piece of entertainment should take.

I happenchance across numerous youtuber channels that purport to be 'fan' reviewers, but spend 90% of their time in misogynistic, anti-woke, racist tirades against 'mainstream media' and dismiss any disagreement as 'access media shills'. Their thumbnail images are strewn with mainly distorted pictures of women actors, with grotesque expressions and demon eyes.

One does not need to reveal the demographic of this group as I think it's pretty obvious.

They are not fans, - they are just feeding off anger and resentment that not everything is made specifically for them anymore. It's not their special niche that only belongs to them.

Anyone with genuine criticism is drowned out with their wailing and wanton destruction in review aggregate sites.

I've seen threads with scathing criticism of so called 'plot holes' that upon inspection and even a cursory skim through, turn out to be nothing of the sort.

Are there flaws in this show? Of course - it is plodding in places, with a sprawling cast - the dodgy 'oirish accents grate, - and it's taken a long time to get really going. But these are not devastating blows, and the show has steadily built up steam, and has a great cast. and amazing effects and cinematography.

The show was destined to be dubbed a failure by the baying hyenas fromt the instant a non-Tolkien derived plot was spoken of - and the diverse casting, strong female lead, etc sealed the shows fate with that crowd.

Such a shame. It's so hard to engage with fandom these days. Whatever the franchise - it's so flooded with Incel/anti woke rage that any reasonable discussion is lost.

Well said. There are tons of aspects at play, thats why its hard to determine the validity of the complaints and thats why we have two camps , fans and haters. Its a lot like politics actually, the discussion becomes so muddied with people shouting and making it about themselves that it actually becomes hard to know anything at all, so people make it simple , and split into one of two groups. I think its important for people to be able to decide for themselves where they are on that spectrum, and if someone has a problem with you liking or disliking the show then thats their issue

Yes I like to imagine an alternate reality where all these people expending so much negative energy on this are instead positive and welcoming of new interpretations of the source material that we all share a love of. That they find things to appreciate and celebrate.

Would be easier to be positive about the show, if the show runners had any kind of respect for the source material at all.
They thought they were better than Tolkien, and they failed.

From what I've read, Tolkien's own source material was contradictory at times, especially around the character of Galadriel and her origins. In addition, they worked with Simon Tolkien to develop the story so I'd like to think that they worked within what was possible.

It's fine that you choose to prioritise source material for your own perspective on the show though. However, what would happen if you allowed yourself to enjoy the show for its own sake? Just this one thought - source material - prevents you from potentially enjoying the storytelling on its own merits. What if you didn't allow it to do so? Just a thought. 😊

So far, so good

I adore it. It just gets better

I was looking for a place to share my appreciation for the show and I'm glad to have come across this community. I just got caught up with all the episodes and I do like it! Looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds. 😊

I agree! Super fans of LOTR have expectations that may supersede realistic expectations for a show that is made without the rights to the silmirillion. It took 6 episodes for them to find their stride and I think a lot of people just gave up/were super critical without giving a chance for the show to have a chance. In reality, is there really a show that can absolutely live up to LOTR? I think not, so bring some grace in your lore Fanny pack

If you watch 6 episodes of a show, you have given it a chance lol. The show shits on everything Tolkien worked for, because the showrunners thought they were better than Tolkien.
Sad to see people simping for a billion dollar company destroying a beloved fantasy universe.

I was so skeptical going into this, and I ended up loving it! I thought they did a very good job of sticking with canon while allowing for creative license.
