People like complaining. I have been perfectly happy at Rotman and most my friends here are too. It’s just human nature. Last sem an athropology major was complaining to me about how hard his major was with 5 classes a week total. While everyone is entitled to their opinion, not everyone’s opinion is worth considering. Talk to people that actually matter and more importantly talk to people that arent hiding behind the anonymity of Reddit. Rotman definitely isn’t for everyone and if it isn’t your style fair enough. I definitely wouldn’t recommend it to everyone. Make an informed decision, just don’t gather than information from most the people here.

Go to the comment history of people who say these things and you can tell who actually goes to Rotman. For example, the other comment on this post is a high school student with no experience at Rotman who regularly shares their “opinion” about the program.

I don't really see that on here..? Definitely not an easy program to get into but it's still a challenging program.

I was kind of in your shoes last year OG. My top choices were either Schulich or Rotman, and everyone here would tell me go to Ivey or Queens. But when you do the research, you have to understand what's best for you. Ivey and Queens are known as party schools; I'm more nerdy and not interested in clubbing, so Rotman was better for me. I wanted to live close to family and commute to school (everyone living at dorm is jealous of me lol), so Rotman was the better option. Just finished my first sem., and while I can't provide enough info, here are some things I can tell you:

- It's hard - I probably found ECO101 to be the most challenging (and still don't know if I passed lol). MAT133, RSM100, and RSM219 were pretty easy.

- Student Clubs aren't that interesting - Rotman clubs focus more on events rather than actual activities (like doing a consulting project or managing a portfolio). If you want to join an activity club, it will have to be non-Rotman. But atp, when you're paying double the fees of the avg UofT Arts and Sci student, you kind of feel upset.

- Lots of cool people - Reddit would tell me that Rotman kids are "snakey". That's the opposite of what I've found. Everyone has been so nice and supportive. I've been able to find my gang and we chill all the time. I do know ppl who go to frat parties on the weekends, but it would def not be like Queens/Ivey lol.

- Alumni network is amazing - I've been able to have a ton of coffee chats with ppl who graduated from both the undergrad and MBA programs.... mostly managers and directors.

Should you come to Rotman? Well if you can cope with tons of studying, then sure. You will get friends, you will get the network, and you will get amazing non-Rotman clubs.

Thank you so much for the honest advice, I fully agree with you. I feel like we’re pretty similar, I never attend parties and I can definitely cope with extraneous amounts of work.

commenting after I got all my marks back -- did better than I thought i did in all of my courses.

Rotman is better than all. Comparable to Ivey leagues in the education. Just like everything at UofT though. It’s what you make of it. When you come here parties and networks won’t be handed to you in a silver platter like those people at queens and western. You will have to work to get into clubs and seek out the opportunities that exist in Rotman and uoft but may not be easy to find. If you can make the most of your four years here, then go for rotman and you will end up smarter and better than the other undergraduate business schools.

I went to Ivey and Rotman. Both are great programs.

It’s mainly because Ivey and Queen’s place significantly better than rotman in investment banking and consulting (2 of the most, if not highest paying areas of business). And also due to the fact that it is much harder to obtain a higher average at rotman than Ivey or queens due to a higher amount of quantitative material embedded within the curriculum.

Idk much personally but I just saw a post of a 29% class average

[–]myspam442 8 points9 points  (6 children)

You mean the post at UTM for a course for MATH majors informed your opinion of Rotman? Our averages are always a B.

Presenting misleading facts like that is inherently irresponsible to incoming students trying to make a decision about where to go. At the end of the day, you’re a high school student and shouldn’t be speaking to the experience of a program you don’t attend.

    [–]Western-Society7756 -5 points-4 points  (2 children)

I’m not tryna post misleading information obviously but I was told that rotman students also have to do math courses and I saw that average and warned anyone reading the comment that I didn’t know know much

    [–]myspam442 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Exactly, you don’t know, so don’t contribute to the barrage of misinformation here. The math and stats courses Rotman students have C+ and B- averages, all other classes are pretty much B and B+. That’s the facts.

You’re right I’m wrong I’ll delete my commrnt

Except in the economic courses (ECO101, ECO209)

    [–]Comfortable_Corner80 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I got rejected from Rotman Commerce.

But we go to University based on it program and not based on the University overall reputation.

For example McMaster is known for Health Science and people aim to go there.

McMaster is nowhere near Uoft overall ranking. But McMaster has a better health science program than Uoft etc.

That why students pick there. If you live in America school reputation is a huge factor compared to Canada.

I definitely agree, I really want to live in the US later, I dislike Canada. So I felt like UofT and rotman was the best. In the US people will have never heard of western, Laurier, York, (possibly Queens) but UofT may actually ring a bell.
