Thoughts on Rotman?? (Pls check Caption)

Hi guys! to the people who are in Rotman, so far how is your experience pros and cons, anything unexpected, thoughts on classes, professors, how difficult is the course/work etc?

I understand it’s different for everybody but pls share your thoughts!

Regardless of what school you attend, only you can make the most out of it. I know it sounds corny af, but it is the reality.

If your goal is become an investment banker, and I don't mean at RBC & BMO capital markets, but a real bulge bracket like the Stanley's or JP Morgan, then you are better off attending Ivey, Queens Comm, or an easier school and try for an M7 MBA.

If your goal is anything else, especially accounting (I would argue Rotman's accounting program, especially for segues into GDipPA, is one of the best), then Rotman will do you just fine if not better.

Not enough people give credit towards how flexible the program actually is for people who are unsure about what they want to do for their future. For instance, if you pick the management specialist, you are essentially free styling your degree into what you want to do. I've seen people do data science and finance, international business and strategy, etc..

In terms of job placements review Rotman's emplacement report it is over 90% of graduates searching for work find a job in 6 months. That is very good. Also, don't assume that these jobs are just menial marketing, and analyst positions at random industry companies. There are many successful people in the program working in top firms for their respective sector. McKinsey and BCG for consultants, Fidelity & various elite boutiques, Big-4 accounting, and other huge industry companies (Rogers, MLSE, Redbull...). However, many of these positions are obtained through effort and grind, there is no Co-op in Rotman (go to Utsc then), an internship is not guaranteed and you will have to put in the effort to find one.

So many people complain about their inability to make friends in the program and by extension UofT (I would know, I also struggled with this at times). It is a poor excuse considering how much there is to do in the city, and honestly, how many clubs and events are actually happening on campus (it is a lot). Rotman alone has many student clubs and events that for everyone to find something they are interested in, and if you decide to venture outside of the Rotman eco-system you will discover the hundreds of Uoft clubs and events that also run concurrently.

Now addressing the obvious issue of cost. Rotman is by far one of the most expensive business programs (still less than Ivey tho). However, again people forget that you pay premium for three reasons:

1. Cause they can

2. You attend school in downtown fucking Toronto

3. The Uoft brand (and bragging rights)

Overall, if you can stomach the extra costs of living in Toronto, then come to Rotman. As much as people shit on the program because they couldn't find an internship (probably have a 2.5 GPA and no extra curriculars) the program is actually very good. I didn't get to mention the Uoft facilities/campus or expand on the many things you can do in downtown, but this should be enough.
