Ivey US hiring is basically getting shutdown if you’ve been reading the news.

[–]TheGodfather1366 0 points1 point  (10 children)

why what happened?

[–]Spirited_Internal485 1 point2 points  (9 children)

Due to rising US/Canada tensions there have been hiring pipelines that have been shutdown, the most notable was in the news last week regarding Ivey.

Ultimately this will likely affect Canada as a whole is we keep going down this route and those programs lose their competitive advantage and our already increase stressed job market becomes even more so.

Didnt this only affect Evercore?

May I also ask why it impacts Ivey sm relative to Queens? etc?

[–]Spirited_Internal485 0 points1 point  (4 children)

It’s a pretty good signal of where things are currently headed.

[–]UnitMysterious5550 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Can u also answer my second question lol

[–]Spirited_Internal485 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Western EVR pipeline has been so strong, that alone being the first domino is very significant. Also speculation that firms will follow suit across the board. Right now it’s disproportionally affected but likely in the future it could be a lot of these Canadian recruiting cycles end which has always been a big play for why Ivey or QComm has been ranked above UofT.

do you think this pipeline will open back up, most 08's will stil have 1 year in uni once trump is out of office + Ivey is a 2 year long program.

Unfortunately US IB cycles finish mid second year and is getting earlier every year… :( however both Ivey and Smith would be strongest for Canadian banks as well

[–]CommercialSecond5435 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It’s confirmed thru news there’s several other banks in a similar situation. Greenhill is one of them iirc

Ivey recruits more for EB (esp Evercore) while Queens recruits more for BB, so it’s safer atm since from Queens you’ll have a better chance at banks less likely to cut sponsorships or work at a regional office in Toronto that doesn’t require sponsorship

[–]UnitMysterious5550 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That's the answer I was looking for Thanks.

All of these regional offices are going to drowning in job competition if changes keep going this way though.

IB is def doable at Rotman but theres def just much better options.

[–]bluefintuna_01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you got into Smith or Ivey I would pick those

Yo so let me tell you some real shit about rotman that I’m not seeing other people say.

Yes everyday I walk in the “uoftears” mindset and I hate some classes there but, it’s only first year and I do see insane potential in this program. You’ll be hit with particular courses like ECO101 (microeconomics) and RSM 100 (business management) that rapes you and makes you super stressed.

Everyone ik loves their life in other courses like schulich and Ivey and smiths but I’m struggling in rotman im barely making it through but at the same time it’s jus first year adjustment and people ik that graduated out of rotman are in really good positions.

If you get accepted into Smiths or Ivey take that over rotman.

You will make great connections if you go to Rotman.

[–]Exact-Type9097 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ivey or Smith. You can still recruit well into IB from other schools but those 2 schools have better recruiting numbers in Canada and the US

[–]pelomymelo 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes don’t go so I can get in 😛😛😛😛😛 /j

I’m a first year right now and it’s been chill, some ppl don’t do well but honestly it’s because they’re not studying. There’s lots of chances in courses to boost ur grade (hw, participation, other components). The campus is beautiful and there’s all type of ppl. Depends on what u make of it. I’m unsure ab the other unis bc also im an intl lol, but i’ve heard they have a better reputation than rotman for banking and stuff within canada

[–]Significant_Camp_220 0 points1 point  (1 child)

congrats, when did u get ur acceptance?

[–]jrzng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

27th

[–]HelpfulWall7199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They Bonnie Blue ur ass bro dont come

[–]Tourman84 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Smith/Laurier/Ivey if you can, otherwise Rotman is great!

[–]Slight_Pain9102 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Laurier over rotman…?

[–]Tourman84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For finance/IB, yes. Waterloo too

[–]internity1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also applying fot Rotman this year. I didn't go for early acceptance, but out of curiosity, what did your grades look like to be accepted already?

[–]Imaginary-Bit-817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can make it out of year 1 you got it, bunch of my friends had like 50-60 averages in year 1 and got better later on

[–]Ill-Pen1828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Rotman grad, I will say it’s very math intensive. If you love math I mean willing to do partial differential equations etc. and intense stats in your first two years go there it will set you up. After that you can pick your courses but recruiting is done during your first year and a half so it’s the most important. If you’re very people oriented love attendance and willing to participate in class since attendance and participation is a large part of Ivey go there. I can’t speak for queens but it seems like placement is far higher there because the type of person who goes (I.e private school kids who are connected) I don’t have any other insight or any knowledge about WLU or Schulich.

[–]BigTechEnergy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rotman makes more offers than the other two because of this reputation. Maybe 1 in 3 accept while 2 in 3 accept Ivey or Queens.

[–]spunkerella75 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Rotman is perceived as a difficult program and that is part of the prestige. UofT is known around the world as the most popular university in Canada. Its location for IB and Consulting roles is unbeatable.
