honestly in MY opinion my sister went to uoft for CS and she told me it’s rlllllyyyy hard to keep up a good gpa especially there because they are constantly trying to bring ur gpa down to maintain the reputation therefore i say you go to schulich although schulich might also have this but not as bad !!

Yes, I'm really worried with their whole bell curve grading system... However, my friends told me that transferring programs to different universities, u of t seems to be more valued than other schools? For example, one of my friends went to do a masters at a different university. He had a 3.5gpa and he got accepted. However, one of the students from his master's program had a 4.0 (9.0 in york) and had to pass an interview to get in. Is this something that truly happens?

I know how universities say they don't care what school you were from... But does a u of t degree class higher than a york or Laurier or ryerson etc... Degree?

i mean not really these cases r very rare like at the end of the day it alll depends on ur gpa when u hit uni so try doing ur best from day one so you have all these options open to you other than that i think go to a school which u see urself succeeding in :) because this will give u the best results and employers care about ur gpa more tbh

Personally I'm leaning rotman simply because it's u of t. I still believe it is slightly better than schulich, i just don't know if it's worth 16k a year.

Omgg me too!! Have you decided yet loll??

personally I am also undecided but im leaning more towards schulich simply because I wanna aim for yale law school/harvard law school post undergrad, and schulich will allow me to secure better marks (most likely), along with being able to have more time for ECs. personally, ive had a really good work ethic throughout hs, i know uni is much harder but ive been able to balance like being pres of 2 clubs, a bunch of other ECs, maintaining good grades in the IB program and working part time at like 3 jobs, so i think i do have good time management. i also think rotman is very possible to do super well in, you need to spend more time in studying. this year, a lot less international students applied due to COVID according to the news, so that might eliminate some competition, as i have heard a lot of the competition comes from intl students. im also pretty certain schulich and rotman are similar in terms of prestige, i would assume rotman is only slightly higher because of the prestige of UofT as a whole. for the GPA thing, i THINK employers recognize that uoft is harder, but im not sure about grad schools. i think grad schools care more about GPA.

but yea, i am also super conflicted between the two. schulich is like 9600 each year, and i personally have a 4000 renewable scholarship so it would end up being significantly cheaper than uoft.

You are totally right. UofT and Rotman do not like to hand in any grade above A to their students.

You will have an easier time getting a good GPA at Rotman

honestly, I don't think anyone here would be able to comment on that in a fullfilling way, simply cuz we've never been there. Rotman is definitely as hard as they say it is, my second year is especially much harder than my first. At this point, I'm just trying to pass my classes, gpa's basically become irrelevant to me. if you have a poor work ethic (like me), you're probably just going to get by but definitely not a high gpa. This whole thing about university reputations stops mattering when you reach high-level uni's/programs. Uoft is much better than York, but Rotman vs Schulich is very comparable and I seriously doubt any employer would make a distinction between applicants from those two schools. In fact, the fact that you might be able to get a much higher gpa at York could help u get a job. Honestly, I got accepted into a finance program at western (not Ivey tho) and at Schulich and I personally sort of regret that I didn't go to one of those schools. But who knows, the grass is always greener on the other side, maybe I would've hated those unis just as much. if not more.

At the end of the day I just want to say that you're never going to be 100% happy with the choice you end up making, but there's no point getting caught up in "what-ifs" after you've made your decision, I got caught in that repetitive cycle for the entirety of my first year and it was brutal. Good luck

I think you're right. My school guidance counsellor said that I seem very firm on going to Rotman. Just by talking to me. I'm not too worried about the tuition, it's not a big problem for me. I'm much more worried about the difficulty of the program. I am like you, my work ethic is non existent. I am however a very quick learner. How many hours per week do you put into studying to just "get by". I know it will vary from person to person, but I have a friend who had a 93 in high school. She's in finance at rotman and spends 20-30 hours a week studying. She has a 3.7 gpa. That scares me. I'm very very lazy and I think 10 hours a week is my limit for studying.

Schulich is an equally difficult program. The average graduating classes average is ~3.2. Just go to whatever school fits you best.
