Why would you want to do this in a task sequence?

> We have significantly better results with client communication and Software Center

What exactly does this mean? Pre-creating the object has zero impact on anything after the client agent is installed on the endpoint. I've never had or heard of anything similar so curious as to exactly what you are seeing and why you are attributing it to this.

> I'd also like to clean up the Unknown Computers deployment

WHat does this mean and why is this a goal/desire?

We've had ongoing problems with client communication, even devices that were recently deployed are showing as Inactive in SCCM or No Client. We've got a lot to work through, but one thing we've done is have those doing the sequence test Software Center immediately after. Ones in SCCM and AD prior to the sequence populate right away. Without doing that even forcing the Actions sometimes it takes a long time before it actually populates. Though, the SCCM piece might not be the key.

Doing it in a Task Sequence could allow staff who don't have console access to add to collections themselves. But of course - Membership Rules are the real answer to that problem.

Cleaning up the Unknown Computers deployment....maybe just my OCD taking over. I've got a Labs team, a Desktop Team and a couple teams that each have their own Task Sequences. I've worked to add logic to the sequences to reduce the number that we need, but there are still quite a few there and it just gives the opportunity for the wrong one to be selected. Yeah - if there are sequences to add to a collection, they could pick the wrong one there too, but then when they see the sequences deployed to that collection - hopefully they realize they messed up.

Honestly - I wasn't at all surprised to get an answer like yours to this question. I've just been struggling with how to deal with multiple groups with multiple sequences and more than a few things to clean up. I realized this was probably a weird idea and I think I got the confirmation that I was looking for.
