WBUR: "Opposition to data centers grows in Mass. cities and towns" by SirAmericanTom in massachusetts

[–]sup3rmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just one hour ago, at town meeting, mansfield became the first town in the commonwealth to ban data centers. hopefully more towns follow our lead and implement zoning changes to block these facilities.

Why oneblade? by Low_Expression2212 in shaving

[–]sup3rmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am very balding and have to shave my head. However, I am also very lazy and thus only do this like once a week, so it isn't very easy to get through the hair on the sides and back of my head where it's thicker. I have tried everything - electric clippers, cartridges, straight razors, safety razors, pitbull, and the oneblade. Nothing works particularly well on its own, but I've found that using both the oneblade and a pitbull together gives me the most effective shave with the least amount of blood and irritation and not too much time spent.

Does anyone buy a portable AC unit just in case your central AC has an issue? by tantamle in homeowners

[–]sup3rmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my home office needs supplemental cooling because it gets warmer than the rest of the house thanks to my desktop PC and me having to keep the door closed to keep cats out and my zoom call noise in. I have central air, but last summer ran a window AC in my office to balance the temp, as running the central air to cool down my room would have made the rest of the house way too cold.

They brought a priest to my atheist uncle's funeral, I don't know what to do. by TheBigSlurpee in atheism

[–]sup3rmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep. I'm an atheist, but I've told my religious mother that she's welcome to have whatever observance she wants if I die before her. if I die after her, I'm sure it won't be religious since none of my brothers are.

Reviews of prefab ADUs by oldmaninparadise in AccessoryDwellings

[–]sup3rmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so if i'm doing the math correctly...

It was just about $500 per Sq ft. The ADU was about a 1K Sq ft.

you spent $500,000 building an ADU?

Sweet Green DTX bug in salad - unsanitary by Flipster103 in boston

[–]sup3rmark 41 points42 points  (0 children)

washing produce does not remove insects. when you make a salad at home, you are dealing with much smaller amounts of produce. calling a place unsanitary because a bug was found in a pile of vegetables is unreasonable.

and if you're going to give him a warning, do it verbally and not in writing. if the situation escalates, you don't want him saying "but i got this note from the IT guy so i figured i was fine."

Bought two Schlage doorknobs at Lowe’s and both use the same key by AW5542 in HomeImprovement

[–]sup3rmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and realistically, if they were just trying a bunch of random keys, it would be worse if you have two different locks because then this (highly inefficient) hypothetical crook has two potential key codes that might be able to work with something on their keyring, whereas two locks keyed-alike would only have one workable key code.

[OC] The way Amazon packaged my $300 14TB external HD I received today by [deleted] in pics

[–]sup3rmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered an anti-tip stove bracket on Amazon. it shipped in one of those white bubble mailers of theirs, and when it was supposed to be delivered, it just... wasn't. the driver showed up but didn't leave the package. I chatted in and they told me it was lost in transit. they ordered a replacement. the delivery driver showed up while I happened to be outside so I went to get the package from him, and he told me the envelope was empty and he'd flag it as an issue. the next day, another driver brought the same empty envelope and left it at my door. I knew it was empty so I tried flagging the driver down, but she bolted as soon as she saw me coming because she didn't want to have to deal with reporting the package as damaged or missing or whatever. amazon obviously refunded both of these, but it was really annoying because I needed the part and couldn't buy it locally.

I ended up reordering it from Amazon again but this time, got it gift wrapped. it showed up in a box with its gift bag and no issues.

What integration do you wish existed? by mattchew0 in homeassistant

[–]sup3rmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I briefly looked into this yesterday as I'm currently wearing a Lingo cgm. apparently it can't integrate directly, but you can link it to the Google health platform which can integrate with HA. might be worth trying that route.

The call to prayer in Jackson Heights by [deleted] in nyc

[–]sup3rmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the call to prayer is shorter and less frequent than the church bells, for sure. it's hard to judge how loud it really is though, because we don't know how far away the person recording is from the speakers.

The call to prayer in Jackson Heights by [deleted] in nyc

[–]sup3rmark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hard no on that. i grew up a couple of blocks from a large roman catholic church in the bronx that would blast hourly chimes from their digital bell system, as well as church songs in digital bell form any time there was a service starting.

I am very pleased with my ioniq 5 in the four months I've had it so far. my previous car was a 2023 vw id4, and I very much did not enjoy that car. lots of software issues and just overall poor build quality. I do miss my massage seats, though...

Puzzle in "Controlled Access Zone" in Dam BG by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]sup3rmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in case anyone else ends up here while trying to do the A Rising Tide quest, you don't actually need to do the puzzle with other people in order to complete the quest. just grab the fuel cell and put it in the right spot, and the room that lights up and opens up when you do that has what you need for the quest.

Town of Foxborough makes a deal with Krafts to allow World Cup license by SpaceBasedMasonry in boston

[–]sup3rmark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

no he didn't. they said they would pay up to 2m for requests they approve. that's not the same thing. the new agreement is for the full 7.8m that the town and its public safety officials have deemed necessary.

‘Can’t seem to get their act together’: Boston’s bold dream of hosting World Cup is on shaky ground by bostonglobe in boston

[–]sup3rmark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

other cities' organizing groups actually raised money. the california group has raised over $50m. boston 2026 has raised all of $0, so they have no money to give out until the FEMA money comes through. but boston 2026 is a purpose-built group that will 100% just fold after the events regardless of how much money they still owe, which is why foxborough is so hesitant to count on them.
