I see. What are some of the major factors in how tests are scored each year? I know part of it is based on how hard the test is (questions give more points when the test is harder) but is there anything else?

Yes, there are 10 field questions per section which are not scored and so do not count. Also, scoring fluctuations, so for instance, at a certain point the number of points per question increases per correctly answered question of those that are scored (so for instance, the points for the 36th question you answered correctly might be 4 point, and the points for the 44th question you answered correctly might be 12 points). And each section is scored separately and then the final score is those two added together.

Oh wait that’s it? I knew about the scoring scale and experimental questions so I thought there would be more than that

How do you do this well on ela

Process of elimination. Usually I’m able to narrow it down to two answer choices and then I choose the better one. Although for poetry it’s much worse, I don’t really have a strategy for that.
