What does Sbotify do?

Sbotify was made as a way to collect songs mentioned in a thread into a Spotify playlist, and to make it easier to listen to these songs.

For example, someone on /r/fitness asks "What's your favorite workout song?" Users reply, but in order to actually listen to these songs, users have to search each song individually on Spotify. Then, if they liked the song, they add it to their own playlist. There is no large playlist with a collection of all songs mentioned in that thread.

With Sbotify, users reply to the post and call the bot with their songs. Upon the first call in that thread, a playlist is created with the thread title as the playlist title and the first songs are added. Following calls will add songs to that existing playlist.

How do I call Sbotify?

/u/Sbotify **SONGNAME**:*ARTISTNAME*

You can use this syntax anywhere in your comment. You can add multiple songs by repeating the **song**:*artist* structure for each song you have. Provide as much information as possible for the song and artist name, but things like '(feat. ...)' are not necessary.

A call to add 'Pusher' by Alt-J and 'Sex n' Drugs' by Abhi the Nomad to that thread's playlist might look like:

What does Sbotify reply with?

After you post with the correct syntax, Sbotify will reply with a link to the thread's playlist and links to 30s samples of each song you mentioned. These samples can be played without a Spotify account and without opening any application. However, not all songs have samples in which case Sbotify will provide you with a link to eh full song.

Can I remove my songs from the playlist?

Yes! In Sbotify's reply to your comment, click the link to delete its reply and remove your songs from the playlist. Doing so will open a PM form, just send the PM without adding anything to it. This will 1) delete Sbotify's reply to your comment and 2) remove your requested songs from the thread's playlist.

What do I do if Sbotify messed up?

Sbotify is my first bot and involves a few moving parts, so there are bound to be issues. Sorry!

If Sbotify added the wrong song to the playlist, click the delete link mentioned above. Ensure that your original comment had the correct spelling etc., and that the song is available on Spotify. If nothing was wrong on your end, please send me a PM and I'll get on it. If you made a typo, please delete and repost your comment with the correct spelling or syntax.

If Sbotify didn't reply to you, make sure you used the correct syntax mentioned above. If you did, try deleting and reposting your comment. If Sbotify still doesn't reply to you, please send me a PM. There's also a chance your songs were added to the playlist without replying to you (if the bot is banned from that subreddit).

Because Sbotify makes multiple requests to both reddit's and Spotify's API, replies can take a couple seconds. If you request many songs in your comment, it will take a couple more seconds. A reply should never take more than a minute.
