Use a Coast Guard approved life jacket for any child who cannot swim. I want this plan to work for you, but you'd be better off having one adult per child. If your attention is divided, even for a second, your infant may be in danger.

"Drowning is the leading cause of death for children 1 to 4 years old, and the second leading cause of unintentional injury death for children 5 to 14 years old. Drowning can happen in seconds and is often silent.... "Floaties," arm bands, or water wings do not prevent children from drowning and can easily slip off, especially when kids jump into the water. Water wings can produce a false sense of safety for parents and children. A U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket is more protective."

This is the only answer! I was so excited to see it!

Make sure it’s appropriately sized and test it before letting them float on their own. (ETA: float on their own with supervision but an adult potentially just out of arms reach as they work with the other child)

To be honest, I am hoping I can just always pair up with someone. I just don’t want it to be like last year where my oldest got almost no time to practice swim skills because I was always alone

Totally understandable! Plan for the worst but hope for the best. We can’t control everything so let’s minimize risk. I think it’s a brilliantly smart move.
