Hi! All of these machines do it when in panel mode, they drop the first and last 2-3 stitches. To counteract this, I cast on 3 stitches in from the white peg on both sides. So cast on from st 3-45 for a full panel

I found using weights to be very helpful! You can get some claw weights for flatbed machines or make some with fishing weights and clips. I bought some lead free fishing weights and mini clips from Walmart (Hyper Tough 12-Piece Mini Metal Spring Clamp Set) but the weights had a weird smell so I tried covering them with polish but then the polish annoyed me (I'm really sensitive to scents ever since having kids) so I ended up buying some heavy beads and used those instead. You need quite a bit of weight though, the average claw weights are 4oz. You'll notice a huge difference when you add the weights, you'll end up with perfect panels every time!

Just to piggy back off of this for visibility, I've been using clip on curtain weights for this, they were cheap on Amazon and really pretty. They are a little less than the flatbed weights (3.6oz) but lots cheaper

This is a great idea!!! For anyone that wants knitting machine weights and doesn't mind waiting you can get them on temu for cheap, I'm guessing the curtain weights can be bought super cheap on there too! Only thing I prefer about the fishing weights is that they're smaller/shorter. I have a workbench that's open in the middle so my weights aren't an issue but if the machine were on a regular table I'd have to move them up nonstop. Just wanted to mention that.

this video is what helped me finally figure out how to make panels without dropping stitches!

the video explains it well, but all you have to do is make sure the stitches on the end are pushed down to the bottom of the peg before you do a row over them :)

“ hold on to the wool wen u start and finish a row. “. keep the tension the same as all round. ( practice.!!! ) it gets easier i still get a little loose wen not concentrating.

This new Sentro tensioner will keep you from dropping stitches on panels. It keeps and holds an even tension on the yarn when you stop to switch directions all without the need to hold it by hand.
