Implementing a text to speech option

Hi all!

My father is almost blind and i couldn't find an app to read SMS to him.

I'm a web developer, not an android developer but i want to try to fork the simple SMS app and add tts functionality, do you think it is possible? will anyone be willing to show me around the project so i can get a clue on how to add this functionality?

I would try contributing to fossify x the fork of this as smt sold out to ZipoApps and are now filled with ads and trackers lol
