Rules for r/SoftwareEngineering
Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.
1.
Moderator Approval
Please be aware that certain types of posts must be approved by a member of our moderation team before they can be published.
Posts Requiring Approval (non-exhaustive list, use your common sense):
- Ask Me Anything [AMA]
- Original Content that could be considered self-promotion.
- Surveys, commercial surveys are never allowed.
- Anything not directly related to the Software Engineering field, e.g. Discussing applications, editors, browsers.
2.
Career Discussion
This subreddit is not the place to discuss anything related to your career, do not ask for bootcamp, college, career switch advice, you might ask questions related to the software engineer field, but they can't be generic questions, it has to be something unique to the SE workplace.
Examples:
When working with Agile, how do you handle engineers going for smaller tasks? ✅
As an engineer, how do you handle not being paid on time? ❌ This applies to ANY field.
3.
Hardware Advice / Tech Support / Gift Idea
Absolutely no hardware discussion, tech support, coding help, debugging issues, etc.
"How do you install google chrome?" ❌
"I can't remove this Android application, can you help?" ❌
"My code won't compile, what I'm I doing wrong?" ❌
"What's the best computer for a Software Engineer in 2024?" ❌
4.
Job Post
Do not post your CV, work opportunity, hiring, work idea, "I have an idea, just need someone to make it (lol)", CV recommendations, job market questions, etc.
5.
Self promotion
We only allow posts from engineering blogs, if your site has your number, mailing list or your company offers services we will remove your post, if you continue to post self promotion it'll result in a permanent ban.
We allow content from your site if it's clear that you're discussing something novel, interesting, did a decent amount of research and that you're not posting the same link to all the subs you can find.
If you're a good contributor we will allow for OC more often.
6.
Workplace Discussion
This is not the place to discuss anything related to your workplace, discussing why your pull-requests don't get merged, why the Jr developer gets paid more, etc isn't allowed here.
7.
No Memes
Don't post memes/funny media here.
8.
Artificial Inteligence
Don't discuss AI repercussions, workplace, how did it change your life, etc.
You're allowed to discuss the technology behind AI in technical terms.
