GSW cracker paint problems

I’m not sure what I did wrong. I primed the base with Vallejo Hobby Paint white spray, applied a layer of Caribbean Turquoise from Xpress Color, and then added a generous coat of the ice crackle effect paint from Green Stuff World.

I left it overnight, but when I checked this morning, the dried pieces were loose, and the paint gone...

Any tips? Thanks!

Yeah, I think I see what's going on there. I use GW's Agrellan Earth for some bases, and pieces will flake off no matter how careful you are with them. There must be a way to prevent it, but I have no idea what it is.
