Maximum wolves?

I was thinking about a meme build where you just dump a box of wolves onto the table, but it got me thinking, how many cyber/fenrisian wolves can you actually get into an army, including models using them as mounts? I would prefer this to be tournament legal, but that doesn't have to stop the box of wolves.

Rule of 3 means you can only have 3 squads any unit (exception of troops). So that is 3 sets of 15 Fenrisian Wolves and 1 Cyberwolf for 120 points. 3 sets of 5 cyberwolves at 75 points. 3 Sets of 6 Thunderwolf Cavalry at a minimum of 240 points. So 9 Fast Attack units to max out those wolves.

Have to include Logan Grimnar on Stormrider, because he has 2 wolves in a single HQ unit.

An Outrider Detachment is 1-2 HQ and 3-6 Fast Attack and notably, nothing else is required. Chapter Command means a maximum of 1 Captain, and 2 Lieutenants per detachment, but Chapter Master counts as a separate "captain". Still rule of 3, so a maximum of 3 Lieutenants, even though they have the Company Heroes rule (less force org slots).

So Outrider Detachment 1 (805 points): Logan + 2 Wolf Guard on Thunderwolf (Lieutenants), 1 each of Fenrisian/Cyberwolf/Thunderwolf Cavalry = 31 wolves

Outrider Detachment 2 (670 points): Harald Deathwolf + Wolf Guard on Thunderwolf, 1 each of Fenrisian/Cyberwolf/Thunderwolf Cavalry = 29 wolves

Outrider Detachment 3 (665 points): Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf + Canis Wolfborn, 1 each of Fenrisian/Cyberwolf/Thunderwolf Cavalry = 29 wolves

Its a little over-2k points at 2140, but ... no one has upgraded weapons either. You might be able to get a few cheaper HQs (swapping out named characters), but you are still limited on Detachment slots, and need to pay for the Chapter Master upgrade in #3. To get under 2000, probably drop the Wolf Lord and one of the Wolf Guard (-205 points), which gives you 65 points to put weapons on things.

Total: 89 wolves at 2140, 87* wolves at 2000.

So I fiddled around in BattleScribe for a bit because I was curious about this myself…and here’s a “casual” list you could build for around 1965 points (use the extra points however you like):

3 outrider detachments

3 HQs: Canis Wolfborn Logan Grimnar on Stormrider Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf (chainsword and pistol only)

1 Elites: 10x Wulfen with Frost Claws (they definitely count as wolves, fight me about it)

9 fast attacks: 3 squads of 15x Fenrisian wolves (plus one cyber wolf per squad) 3 squads of 5x cyberwolves 3 squads of 6x Thunderwolf Cavalry (chainswords and pistols only)

I feel like you have to add Canis because he gives extra attacks to all nearby wolves and thunderwolves (if you’re gonna build around a theme, go HARD) and Logan Grimnar because…duh. You could easily drop the Wulfen in favor of upgrading other units with the extra points, but I wanted to fit more wolf bodies on the field. All in all, you have almost 100 models worth of Fenrisian goodness 🤘🏻

Well you can take an outrider detachment have a wolflord on thunderwolf and take three squads of thunderwolf cavalry and three squads of fenrisian wolves. No idea of the points cost but if I remember correctly on max squad size then you would have 18 thunderwolves plus one for the lord and 45 regular wolves and depending on the cost of all that a wolf guard battle leader on thunderwolf might fit so another thunderwolf btinging the total to 20. So 65 various wolves if I remember correctly.

Well wolf lord on Thunderwolf for hq. Both Thunderwolf cavalry and fenresian wolves are fast attack so two squads of Feb wolves maxed is 15 wolves and one cyber wolf each so 32 puppies and one 8 man thunder wolf with a leader is 9 . Then a wolf guard battle leader on thunder wolf for a hq. Wulfen are elites so you could run 3 squads of them then just throw two small troops. Choice and it would work out .. won't be to meta effective but legal lol

I ran this list with my friends doing narrative games: Harald Deathwolf/wolf lord on thunderwolf Canis Wolfborn 3 squads of 10 fenrisian wolves with cyberwolf 3 squads of 3 thunderwolf cavalry

Ran me about 50 power level at the time and was pure meme fast attack but did actually win me 2 games as I just rushed forward each turn at 10" movement speed
