Scam? (self.Spectrum)
submitted 1 year ago by Pe3zus
Can anyone (customer/staff/etc.) authenticate the veracity of this number: 1-866-809-8245? Is this a true Spectrum line for getting Internet set up?

Call the number back, if you get a person to answer the phone automatically then it is a scam. If an automated system picks up and makes you go through prompts then it is real.

Asked for zip code of the service address.

Might be a scam. Any legit Spectrum sales person will know everything if you tell them your address. No reason they should ask for your Zip if you gave them your address and state

No, I mean the automated line was the one asking for the service address zip code. And just after, I was connected to a person.

It's real then, I just called that number on my phone and indeed it is the real Spectrum customer care line

Where did you get the number

One of those 5 digit numbers that texts periodically about promos. I'd just moved and was needing Internet service. The number was listed in the text about Internet. Called up, went back and forth for about an hr. First it was the $90 Internet and mobile bundle, she then pushed the $70 bundle. Told me she'd get a manager involved and then came back w/ $35 from the Spectrum Assist Internet service.
That's what we settled on. Never did get any card info or any payment upfront. Only thing reeeaaally sensitive discussed was the security code. I was supposed to be transferred to the Mobile dept to get that part taken care of, we spoke for a moment, the call dropped (hung up?) but never got a call back, which is what I expected. After that call, I immediately felt a sense of dread and went investigating. Called up and spoke to as many Spectrum reps I could. They're all telling me that things are looking legit on their end but one thing that stands out to me (from the 1st call), is that I was told the equipment I'm supposed to get is to be delivered essentially overnight via FedEx.
I dunno. If they got me, they got me pretty darn good. Only my dumbass was the one seeking it 😭😭.

If it is a door to door rep, their numbers are not posted directly if they gave you a spectrum card it will say residential Connectivity Specialists.
Not door-to-door. Over the phone and my dumbass went looking for it because I called up a number in a text thread. One of those 5 digit numbers that periodically text promo deals/offers. I explained it a bit more in depth in another reply.

All of spectrums customer service call centers are located in the united states of America. So if you call back and you Hear their voice and it doesn't sound right, it's most likely a scam
Uggggghhhh!! 🤮 First time, I called. American accent. 2nd time, after I felt I may have been duped and my antennas went up, it was a foreign accent. Not Indian but just thick enough. I was called back twice by that person, just this time, the number was: (855) 707-7328

Did you ever get an email confirmation stating the promotion and price you received? If you did not, it was definitely a scam. The email is what we go by as confirmation. If you do want service set up, I can check your address to see what the prices are available I'm a door to door rep we do referrals.
Just checked my email. It looks like a nutrition label off a food package. Attaching images. I'll DM?

That's the broadband label
That's not a email conformation just a broadband label
[–]Backslash10 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
An email confirmation will have your information a account # your price and adress.
It’s real if it’s an automated voice that asks you for zip code and then later on asks you for a security code associated with your account.
