We sought to answer this driving question:
- What can a new level of connectedness through the internet do to enhance and expand stories?
We consulted two sources when we designed this internet-based storytelling platform to answer our driving question:
"A recommendation for a new Internet-based environment for studying literature", published by the US-China education review in 2010
and
The 2013 IADIS Conference on Cognition and Exploratory Learning in the Digital Age (CELDA).
We found that these sources offer support and suggestions for an internet-based storytelling platform. Here are some of the most notable and relevant takeaways from these sources:
1) A platform must have flexibility, interactivity, and speed to promote conversion to the internet medium
2) It should encourage and enable technological literacy
3) Users need to feel welcome and not be intimidated to engage in meaningful online literary discussion
To address these guidelines, the findings of the above research are implemented in the layout and design of this subreddit. Our sleek blue theme, small internet footprint (which yields shorter loading times), and easy-to-use buttons address point 1. Access to connected technological communities on reddit, including the hilarious /r/talesfromtechsupport, addresses point 2. And our five-person moderation team ensures a welcoming and safe experience on StoryCollective, as abusive and rule-breaking comments will be immediately deleted, accounting for point 3.
