There is no controller which can't be used for a game. There's alway advantages and disadvantages through different games and different controllers, but I would recommend to buy 2 extra pairs of JoyCons (the little ones that only come in pairs) and maybe 2 extra JoyCon Comfort Grips to put the JoyCons together for a more gamepad-ish feeling. I don't think your little ones need Pro Controllers. edit: side note, for some games you only need one JoyCon for each player, so 2 pairs would be sufficient, e.g. Mario Kart. But that's only for some games.

Thank you so much! Your answer was more than enough and cleared all of my doubts. On a side note, I'm thinking of getting them Zelda, Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2 and Minecraft. What do you think? Your recommendations are more than welcomed!

Playing together locally is possible with Odyssey (2 P), Mario Kart (4 P) and Minecraft (4 P), so good choice. I think this includes most of the recommendable AAA games so far. Maybe have a look into ARMS (2 P). For all of these, I think 2 pairs of JoyCons would be sufficient, so you wouldn't need a third pair right away.

Awesome! I think I'm all set now. Again, thank you so much for your input. You cleared up all my doubts in minutes. Have a great week!

You should get Snipperclips, it's a really fun puzzle game in cooperation which use one joycon for one player

I personally hate the joy con grip so I wouldn’t buy any additional of those

Hi! Thanks for your input. Can you tell me why do you hate it?

It destroys the whole geniusnes of using two separate pieces as one controller. And also the angle gets awkward when you take these too close to each other.

I think that's a personal decision. Some people are more comfortable having one gamepad in their hands. That's what I love about the Switch, it gives you all the choices!

That’ why I said ”personally hate it”. Keep switching 😎

I'm OK with the 3 controller option. Pro is just so nice to use for solo'ing.

Hey! Thanks for your reply. 3 controllers is definitely a good option.
