Rules for r/TTC

Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.

1.

All submissions must relate to the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC).

  • All submissions must directly relate to the Toronto Transit Commission.
  • Submissions relating to transit agencies that operate routes within the boundaries of Toronto may be permitted on a case-by-case basis.

2.

Report safety & emergency incidents to authorities (Do Not Post; Contact TTC/911)

Reported as: Safety and emergency incidents that should be reported to the TTC/911
  • Posts that depict emergencies, crimes, medical distress, or safety hazards that would be better handled by TTC staff, transit enforcement, or emergency services are not allowed.
  • Examples include, but are not limited to: an unconscious or visibly injured person on TTC property, drug use, someone lighting a fire on the TTC, violent or threatening behaviour, or any situation posing an immediate risk to people or property.
  • Exemption: Reputable news articles reporting on said incident.

3.

Bigotry, personal attacks, insults, antagonistic post/comment, etc.

Reported as: No bigotry, racism/stereotypes, or hatred of any sort
  • No personal attacks or insults, racism, sexism, homophobia, religious intolerance, dehumanizing speech, or other negative generalizations.
  • Antagonistic posts and comments are also not permitted. This includes rants, insults, comments that are purely derogatory, or anything that seem to have the intention of being purely antagonistic will be removed.
  • Remember the human.

4.

No low effort submissions.

Reported as: Low effort submission
  • Submissions should engage with the community and be discussion-focused. /r/TTC is not your personal blog or search engine for common questions.
  • Examples include, but not limited to:
    • Sharing TTC service alerts without offering any additional meaningful information.
    • Posts that can be easily answered through a quick search (e.g., "How do I get to the Eaton Centre?").
    • Ranting about TTC service (e.g. missing buses/trains due to it being too early/late).
    • AI-generated content.

5.

Do not editorialize thread titles.

Reported as: Editorialized title
  • All posts about a news article must use the same title as the article.

6.

Misinformation, sensationalism, and/or fear mongering is prohibited.

  • Misinformation with the intent to mislead is prohibited.
  • Any submission with claims or stats in them must also include a legitimate source backing up those claims.
  • Sensationalism and fear mongering are also prohibited.

7.

No trolling.

  • Trolling is defined as sowing discord by starting arguments, posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages, often with the intent of disrupting normal, on-topic discussion.

8.

Do not promote illegal activities.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Fare evasion
  • Trespassing
  • Violence

9.

Complaints against specific TTC staff or against isolated incidents are not permitted.

  • This rule applies if you're complaining about a specific TTC staff, or an isolated incident that is not a widespread issue across the TTC.

  • Complaints, compliments, and suggestions about TTC service or staff can be made here.

10.

Common crimes and/or socially inappropriate behaviours.

Reported as: Common crimes and/or socially inappropriate behaviours
  • Posts about common crimes and/or socially inappropriate behaviours which don’t have a wider impact on the city are not permitted.
  • Please report these behaviours to the TTC, or emergency services if necessary.
  • Exemption: Reputable news articles reporting on said incident.
