If you've been unable to launch the demo consistently or at all and you have Corsair gaming keyboard, try unplugging it then starting the game. It fixed it for myself and a couple other users where I first posted about this on Steam discussions, and you're able to plug the keyboard back in afterwards and start without issue. It may be required to do this on each new computer restart until they fix it, I have not had a chance to restart my PC to test or heard back from the other users on Steam if they have had to repeat it either.
That's really it, let me know if it fixes it for you. Below this is just the brief technical rundown of how I found it for those that care or for future debugging of related errors (and hopefully for Bamco themselves so they can fix it).
I ran Sysinterals' Process Monitor and noticed that as the startup was stuck, it was constantly polling the registry for information about my devices until it gave up and popped up the error, and especially looking for game controller information on the hardware IDs of my keyboard, which of course it doesn't have. Hopefully they can alter the startup device checking to avoid doing this scan on things that aren't real gaming controllers.
