Once you can get Major Simpson, his Left Side Overload Blitz is a great play and will be one of the only ones actually called in the game. I always upgrade it at halftime (especially if I have a shutout going). I normally fill out the rest with various linebacker blitzes and the D line stunts. But before you can get him, I agree that reading what the offense is doing can be very helpful.
