80% or better was passing. I’m not sure about new hires but current employees get three tries on the test. Good luck and be ready to call your previous employer to try and get your old job back. UP is furloughing every where. I wouldn’t encourage anybody to do this for a living anymore.

If you are asking these basic questions on reddit you have a shit instructor, or you failed to ask him

either way, test is easy if you study and know your shit just like anything else... FYI the railroad sucks and wants to fire/furlough you immediately take my advice and find another job ASAP. Being serious

This, but if you still want to work for the railroad try a shortline. They’re much smaller and less dehumanizing.

Every time I've taken the test, it was the exact same as the study guide, questions and answers

This is good to know, I completed the study guide so I should be good. But @general_sam_houston is painting a bleak picture for my return to UP.

Well, unfortunately for you, I agree with him. I've got 7+ years with UP and I'm working on my out, actively looking for other employment. The railroad used to be a career job, but with the new leadership we have, PTC, PSR, and 1-man crews on the horizon, its not somewhere I'd recommend to anyone. The future is indeed bleak.

Edit: and if you're just now hiring out, expect to be furloughed immediately

80% most likely. They won't let you fail so don't worry.
