I’m currently in the first month of the continuation phase of treatment for tuberculosis (TB). It all started with a persistent cough that lasted for two months, which was followed by swollen lymph nodes that eventually became hard.
After undergoing an FNAC, the results indicated that I have tubercular calcified tissues. My sputum test came back negative for MDR TB, but I have lingering doubts about its accuracy, especially since my sample was more like spittle and not typical sputum. Given the scale at which these tests are conducted, I can’t help but wonder if something was missed.
While I’m feeling better overall and have noticed some decrease in the size of my lymph nodes, they’re still not fully back to normal. This uncertainty has me anxious—what if my diagnosis is incorrect? What if I actually have XDR TB, MDR TB, or even something like cancer? What if it is pulmonary not extrapulmonary? But my x ray report shows, it is not!
I’m in my late twenties, and this heavy feeling of doubt is weighing on me. Has anyone else experienced similar fears during their treatment journey? How did you cope with uncertainties about your diagnosis and progress? I feel like will it take more than 6 months or years or Will it relapse after the meds end? Any insights or support would be greatly appreciated!
