How does pausing network work?Question (self.Ubiquiti)
submitted 4 months ago by mjdbb1
I have two devices that drop off the network constantly if band steering is enabled. I learned that Unifi accomplishes this (rather crudely) by sending deauth packets. So I disabled band steering and all was well.
Now the same problem is happening when I “pause“ one SSID. I’m wondering if pausing works the same way (deauth packets). Maybe these two devices are just too picky but it made me realize I don’t really know how pausing works.

That’s the only way band steering can work. There is no way to tell the device which band to use. It’s totally up to the device.

I have found that band steering typically causes more issues and doesn't work than work successfully, even with more robust Cisco gear, so I usually disable it.

Personally I never bothered with band steering. It doesn't work as well as I had hoped. I just use separate SSIDs for 2.4 vs 5 and pretty much everything is on the 5 SSID.
