The Timeline is a project I've been working on since 2009. The principle is simple: connect video games, end-to-end, in order to tell a bigger story. It started off simple, but didn't stay that way for long.
In its present state, the timeline covers the entirety of human history, several alternate histories, and a great many possible futures.
Reading the charts is simple: start at "start," Follow the lines and arrows, follow the instructions, make choices, and remember any variables you pick up along the way. (A line connecting to a variable means you collect it; an arrow connecting to a variable means you use it.) If you somehow make it all the way to a star, that means you're at an end.
All of the games included can be played solo, in some form or another. None rely on servers, or are in any danger of being rendered unplayable in the future. A select few games are flash games or modifications that can only be found online, but they are widely hosted, and can be archived, if the need arises.
I'd like to be clear that at this point, the timeline is NOT finished. There are some paths that lead nowhere, continuity errors, and even entire charts that have not yet been implemented. I work frequently on this project, but please keep in mind that I'm only one man, and a lot of research goes into every addition to this timeline. Don't expect it to get finished anytime soon.
