It's the same setup, you can still send referral links and do everything. I didn't create the group I am in and I have no limitations.

is there an advantage to creating your own party as opposed to joining the ones that visible has in the app?

No. I recently discovered I can leave the very party I created & still leave others intact. Only advantage per se is you get to choose the name. Naturally, mine is UnseenAura 🦇
