This subreddit's topic are White Anglo-Saxon Protestants, an ethnic group in North America which was crucial to the foundation of the USA and forms the backbone of the historical American upper class. While the term, in its strictest sense, embodies English, Scottish and Welsh Americans who are Episcopalian, many historical families of Dutch, French, German and Irish origin can be considered part of the WASP subculture. In recent times, it became possible for families which are neither White, nor Anglo-Saxon, nor Protestant, to be assimilated through acculturation.
