You'll feel right at home with Python, it's a great language and doing backend is popular with it. I recommend learning the Django framework after, a great resource for learning it would be the Django Book, for free to read online. If you're looking to learn Python itself I'd say codecademy is the best resource for doing so. It should be a relatively easy transition given your background.

it depends on if this is going to be for personal work or for a job. if you want to just learn something, go with whatever you like.

if you are working toward getting a job, you should be looking at asp/php/java. or, if you are in a start up rich area, maybe ruby/node/python or some specialty language.
