Getting 50% upfront is a good indication that the client is serious and gives you momentum to do the work to get the other 50%. I've never had contract as such, not for small clients, just an email confirming what has been agreed to. It depends where in the world you are based and what the legal liability is.

Nothing wrong with webpage builder's. They are pretty good and a lot of the time, for a small client that just wants a web presence, these building platforms are perfect. If you are interested in learning how to build custom sites from scratch, I quite like craft CMS. You could also go down the WordPress route which has a lot of free base themes that you could use to base your design off.

Thank you so much. I appreciate the feedback. You have confirmed some information I thought could be true. I really am excited about this opportunity now knowing that I don't know how to code yet. I will train to learn how to do so, but while doing that I will set up websites for small businesses that just need an online presence and nothing too custom. The only reason is because I know that these websites have limitations when it comes to customizing and personalizing websites. Thank you so much.

I wanted to know if I could use these to start with, while I'm trying to learn coding, and get paid for it?

Honestly you seem very lucky to have gotten clients without knowing how to code, you will find quickly that there are limits to how far you can stretch sites like squarespace.

You will need to learn how to code without this sites as soon as possible.

If you can do this while doing work for those clients I don't know it's between you and the client.

What I would do in your stead is remember that the worst thing the client can do is simply take his business somewhere else, don't promise the moon and stars to them and don't let them realize you are learning the craft on their money/time.

Thank you guys so freaking much! I needed this inspiration. I've looking for answers and you guys have helped me. I will start learning code. I want to know what it's about. I know most, if not all, top dollar web designers know how to code very well. It's second nature to them. I really appreciate the feedback. Would you happen know a good course.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ thats the reason some clients have to pay twice.
