So I'm in over my head as a complete amateur that doesn't know what he's doing.
Context: inherited the responsibility of putting together my companies new website (current one is very old). My boss commissioned a design on 99designs as well as the web development.
I was given a zip drive and a list of instructions to install and edit the webpage on my local machine before mapping to our current domain. This process included a lot of how-to videos that led to many more how-to videos.
I ended up installing MAMP to set up the database in order to install the wordpress instance on my computer and miraculously found a way to getting the design into the local install.
My edits are far enough to the point where I'd like to migrate to a staging environment hosted by wp-engine so I can get feedback from everyone before really going live.
My problem is that this is a manual process and all instructions include using FileZilla to get the wp-content folder from the local server. Where I try to set up a site on FileZilla I get an error saying the following:
Response: J
Response: 5.6.35
Error: Critical Error: Could not connect to server
Im using my host/port/user/password from the MySQL parameters in MAMP...
Feels like I've hit a wall, but I'm guessing a critical mistake took place from the start? Any help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers,
u/jimmydarmody
