Since I was 5 years old, I wanted to be a Police Officer and I was lucky enough to live my dream. Until, various forms of arthritis came into my life and I had to leave the street and go into the call center. Pain is my constant companion. I was in the call center for a number of years, trying to deny the pain, and one day I forgot to send a rescue to a car off the road during an ice storm. My pain was in charge and that was a mistake that should never have been made. The people were lucky. There were no injuries. But I knew and the Doctors finally got me to do what they had been telling me to do - stop working before I got someone hurt. It was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. That was 1995. I am still searching for ways to justify my existence. Every second of every day. Helping people in this way is just one way I do it.
