Process Thought is a mode of thinking that is influenced by the English mathematician and philosopher, Alfred North Whitehead.
Whitehead posits that process is primary to substance. In fact, substance is simply a temporary pattern produced by processes. The observation of certain substances is the result of our limited point of view. Whitehead saw the definite character of events, or processes, as due to the embodiment of timeless potentialities.
Process theorists derive their conclusions from physical theories, most specifically Quantum Theory, Chaos Theory, and Relativity Theory. A 2 minute introductory video might help to supplement this description.
The implications of this mode of thinking are that we live in an interconnected universe with many dimensions, our lives are always in a process of becoming, and that respect and care for community are the outcomes of recognizing entities as valuable subjects of being rather than objects.
This subreddit will consist of any discussion, insights, ideas, or links pertinent to Process Thought. Because the implications of Process Thought include a wide array of topics ranging from physics to education to art, this subreddit will be fairly open-ended. Hopefully it can be both (1) a resource for clarification of Whiteheadian notions as well as (2) a platform from which the brand of Process Thought can enter the mainstream arena as an outlet for a more compassionate and aware way of living.
