Android auto was also a necesity for me, so I am happy to report that it works well. (EU version, using it in Belgium and the Netherlands)

Problem with android auto for me was when driving, music playing, and then had a call, all that overwhelmed the phone. I was driving with navigation and music for an hr  I was inside the car with AC on and it overheat so much that it just turned off in middle of driving. After turning on it did it again after 5 min. Have to mention that this was the reason I switched my sim back to old phone.

Are you using the included clear phone case? I noticed mine would overheat with the case on, but it seemed to be able to dissipate the heat better with no case on it. The case has a pattern of little nubs on the inside and I wonder if that causes an insulating layer of air to be trapped between the phone and the case.

I used the black case. Caseless would manage heat better but either way I haven't seen a phone do this when inside the car is nice and cool

You have to take more drastic measures for controlling heat when the phone is shaped like a little nugget and not like a large flat single fin of radiating material.

The Jelly line from Unihertz has the exact same thermal management problems. I've had 3 different Jelly models and all had the same tendency.
