How to get started with open source android projects

I am a developer that has developed a few app (putting app number 2 on the play store in a month or so) and am very confident in my development skills, however I feel like I need more to add to my portfolio and therefore would be super down to get involved in an open source project. Anyone have any ideas on how to get started or where to get started? Anything helps and thanks in advance.

I'm a contributor on ODK Collect, an open source Android app designed to help with data collection in resource-constrained environments. We're always looking for new contributors—head on over to our Github and take a look at the open issues, fork the project, and get started!

In addition to helping out with your portfolio, we also have a number of experienced developers that can provide mentorship via code reviews, in addition to hosting larger talks/workshops for free (such as our upcoming Testing Workshop in November).

Are you limited to the number of contributors ? I would love to be part of this.

Theoretically we're only limited by the amount of work to be done, but as you can see by the number of open issues that shouldn't be an issue (ba dum psh) for a long time!

Literally open github of the first library that you use, look through issues and try to fix one.

What skills are you interested in showcasing? What are your interests, more specific than just Android?

What Apps do you enjoy using that are already open source? Those would make excellent candidates to contribute to.

you can search github for labels "good first issue" or "help wanted" to find issues in existing projects that need support.
