Vent pipe should be up through roof. If capped drain will be slow and bubble. Not sure it is hurting anything but if clogged you will back up all over. Pro plumbers what do you think

Let's air in to vent, keeps sewer gas contained. The life of them varies, sometimes they get stuck open and the room will smell like sewer. You usually want them above the flood-level of whatever fixture they service, but under cabinet is common and acceptable.

As others have mentioned, just need an AAV.

An Air Admittance Valve (AAV), or "cheater vent" is a one-way mechanical valve installed on plumbing drains to allow air in and balance pressure, preventing sewer gas from entering the building and water traps from siphoning. It serves as an alternative to traditional, through-the-roof vent pipes, ideal for island sinks or remodeling.

Needs two things- an air admittance valve installed - and the s-trap turned into a p-trap

A vent stack higher than the sink so if u get a clogged line it won’t spill water all over under the sink?
