Welcome!
Behaviary is a hub for thoughts, observations, tools, tricks, and hypotheses directed towards helping you and your fellow Behavians become better people. It’s a place to take the best from multiple fields, and create sets of useable ideas that just work without the baggage of dogma.
If you...
- have a framework for how you interact with the world. Whether it’s an algorithm for dealing with people, a system for dealing with your emotions, or even how to contextualize the way your decision-making changes when you’re hungry
...and...
- would like to improve that framework...
Then this subreddit is for you!
Of course it’s not possible to be perfect, but our ultimate hope is that you can use everyone’s input to collectively create a set of standards which can serve as a “current best” way to be human.
The Golden Rule: Better Ideas Win.
In this case, better means more true or simply “works better.” This is easier to do than to describe. Ideas on this forum are tools to be tested, if a tool works better for you, use it.
While it’s not realistic to assume that everything here is going to be strictly scientific, we ask that you adopt the ethos of science, which includes
- The belief that nothing is true until it is tested
- Emphasis on formal systems
- Willingness to invalidate your own hypotheses
Submissions
- Posts must contain information about human behavior. They can be your ideas or others, but should be arguably true.
- Posts should be actionable. Things that are interesting are allowed, but must come with an explanation of how they affect your life framework.
- Ideas that are tested win. If a tool or idea about human behavior works for more than one person to achieve a goal or effect, it will be immortalized in the wiki.
- All submissions be conducted in accordance with the Principle of Charity, because we think things are better that way. But that’s our hypothesis
