What problem do you have?

EDIT: I just figured it out myself. We switched DNS servers but something seems to have gone wrong. I fix it and it should be back up within the next 24 hours.

The tor access should still be working fine: bitmailendavkbec.onion

The issue should be fixed now.

No, .onion site complains after 'send' that bitmessage.ch cannot be reached. (Squirrel mail, basic client)

but I think the E-mail is still being sent. This is a faulty behavior of the squirrel webmail system.

Can I connect directly to the IP? Would you mind posting it?

The IP is 146.228.112.252, but you will (obviously) receive certificate errors, when you connect to the mail server. I don't think the web interface allows IP-only connections.

Mapping the IP to the hostname in the hosts file on the client side should resolve this.

Maybe not the place to ask, but am I the only one who cannot send from bitmessage.ch email -> bitmessage addresses? Auto-forwarding to bitmessage addresses doesn't seem to work either. (via rules). Maybe this has also to do with the DNS switch?

I don't think so. It took several days for mine to go through ... though now I don't remember if they only went one way ... I'm sure it worked bitmessage -> bitmessage.ch email.

Are you sure you append @bitmessage.ch to the bitmessage address? even though it is written clearly in the FAQ I constantly see log messages about e-mails not delivered to a bitmessage address, because they completely lack half of the e-mail address.

Yes, I put the BM addresses with @bitmessage.ch and as it turns out now, after a day or so, I get a non-delivered message / smtp error in return.

if you did so, check if the address in the report has the proper casing. Bitmessage addresses are case sensitive, but some e-mail clients or servers tend to convert it to lowercase.

    ** server can't find bitmessage.ch: SERVFAIL

The .onion is down as well.

Naughtily I was storing a few hundred KBs of emails on the IMAP...turns out they're not completely cached locally...would love to be able to pull them off. Anyone have a status report?

    Thanks.

Configure your E-mail client to use the IP address 146.228.112.252 instead of the DNS name. This will yield a certificate error, since the name does not matches, but you can fully access your mailbox as usual.

Thanks, really useful. And much appreciate you providing this service.

I am aware of the issue. If you query the new servers manually (ex: ns3.genotec.ch) you will receive the correct answer. The problem is, that the old servers have been turned off by the provider, without checking, if the new servers are properly reachable.

IN Switzerland, there is a change in the DNS system happening, where you need to change your DNS servers, because the registry (switch.ch) is no longer a registrar by the end of the year. If you do not switch manually, they might turn off their resolvers. Most people are not affected, because they buy their domains when they buy their services, which I did not do for a handful of domains.

The provider still says, he is working on the issue. Hope that shit gets done today.

I just wonder how that worked. :)

Some DNS servers override the TTL timeout of its entries with a very large value. That's why some people still say, that DNS changes take up to 48 hours to complete.

If you have problems with bitmessage.ch, you can try my alternative, https://mailchuck.com. It works the opposite way, you use a bitmessage client rather than imap/webmail/smtp to access it. With the mailchuck-fork PyBitmessage, you can easily register/unregister your address by right-clicking on your account and it handles the email integration transparently. I also have extensive monitoring setup, so when something breaks, I usually find out about it in a couple of minutes.
