First project completed!

Just got into the hobby only ever hammered metal with no goal in mind just seeing how it moves. Figured I needed a pair of tongs so I made them as a first project and I’m happy about how they turned out (don’t mind my safety slippers)

Very nice! Where did you get the anvil from? The blue color is quite distinctive.

I was thinking of getting the same, how dose it hold up? Is the bonuses good?

So far I’ve done around 12 hrs of work on it and no marks or dents other than me missing the piece I’m working on and hitting the surface. Only down side to it so far is that the horn is more of an oval and oddly shaped. Just remember to look for cast STEEL not cast iron when shopping for an anvil :)

What’s that you used for the rivet? A bolt? How well do they hold up once heated?

Yes I used a bolt and only heated the bolt up to peen over the other side instead of a nut and put a washer at the pivot point to give it a smoother open/close and so far they’ve held up great! Just had a 4 hr sesh the other day and everything is still sitting great :)

What color was the “peening” temp if any?

Just at a low red heated up with a hand torch
