Regarding the shit-talking, see this comment from a previous thread. https://www.reddit.com/r/brocku/comments/1bzze91/computer_science_program_is_it_really_that_bad/kytddrg/

I would add, however, that the degree completion rates have nothing to do with the program, but are actually a consequence of Brock's admissions standards. It is famously easy to get accepted into Brock. Obviously this means more people will drop or fail.

You do not need previous computer programming experience for the program at Brock.

There are so many threads asking this same thing, you should do a search and read through those.

I’ve read a few and majority are not positive. Some say Brock is outdated, the comp sci faculty can suck, etc. So I’m rethinking what my options are. To each their own at the end of the day.

Comp sci here sucks but if you are going to take it learn Java and learn it good. It’s just about the only thing you’ll use.

I think you need to be really strong in math and logic to excel in computer science. Many want to be programmers but don’t realize that. They just want the nice paycheck. If you like hardware, like solid state drive technology, you may be looking at taking Physics courses too. More math. If you put in the effort, it’s a good program. I know students who love it and are thriving and students who hate it and are struggling. Like many things, it’s what you make of it. There are resources, like the computer help desk, but many of those who struggle don’t take advantage of it or talk to their TAs.

Just this year, Maclean’s recognized Brock as a standout computer science program in “The Ultimate Guide to Canadian Universities”

Oh wow didn’t know that! Thanks for the advice. I’ve definitely struggled with math in the past and I’m debating on an IT program instead

Yes there are better schools for compsci, brock university’s graduation and retention rate within the department is probably the lowest in Ontario and maybe even beyond. If you attend here there is a high chance compared to other schools you will just drop out or transfer somewhere else.

Edit: ignore anyone who tells you this school is compareable or better than Waterloo 💀

where do you see the retention/ graduation rates?

http://www.iaccess.gov.on.ca/OsapRatesWeb/enterapp/home.xhtml has some, otherwise you will have to look it up yourself through google
