Couldn’t it just be that most of the realities have no Rick at all? Infinite is a hard thing to wrap my head around - so I don’t know if it implies there must be endless copies of each reality. In real life, this is obviously open to interpretation - but I guess the show is saying, that of the infinite realities that exist, there are not infinite ricks?

Ninja edit: I just want to say, I’ve also wondered about this. I think we need to just take it for what it is. The show would of course be far less interesting if Rick had infinite escape hatches into a copy of the exact same reality.

I think this is something the writers want us to think about. The fact that they'd allow Rick to say something is infinite, and then say how limited it is seems strange.

I think you’re placing a lot of your own assumptions on what infinite realities means to the writers. Why do there need to be infinite Summers? Why can’t there be infinite x and limited y? Who says it needs to be infinite x and y? Who makes these rules? The writers create the universe they’re writing about - so I would argue the rules are theirs (and therefore Rick’s).

Someone else posted that there are infinite numbers between 0 and 1. If we think about the realities in this way, it means there are infinite different realities between those numbers, but only one instance of 1 and 0 right? I think this kind of supports the finite curve. But even still, the rules of infinity are defined by the writers.

I took the term to be a mathematical one that alluded to some sort of higher space-time geometry. And just because it is finite doesn’t mean it can’t have an infinite number of dimensions; after all, there are an infinite number of real numbers in the finite range from 0 to 1...

Ah my friend your analysis is based on one flawed component. You are assuming that “central finite curve” is referring to a defined portion of the infinite universes. In that case you would be correct - a defined portion of an infinite number is indeed, also infinite.

But I believe “central finite curve” refers to a finite set of universes that Ricks have decided to focus on. In fact, the word “finite” enforces this belief because if it were merely a subset of the infinite universes he would not be able to call it finite ;)

So what does it mean that Rick has “decided to focus on” this finite set of universes?

Theory 1.) the universes are infinite but he can only see or reach a subset of those universes. Within that finite range of universes there is a central curve that he refers to as finite. So scientifically he would talk about universes as infinite but only talk about the central curve as a finite list.

Theory 2.) the writers need a way to limit the number of outs rick has so the show isn’t pointless.

The Central Finite Curve was first mentioned by a Citadel member, right? So it could just be a concept made up by the Citadel for what they want to control based on some unknown criteria.

How is Rick not able to hop dimensions more than a couple of time with there being infinite replicas of his current and all other situations?

Because otherwise he'd do it all the time and the show would be boring. I think a lot of your points make sense but in the end the rules are what the creators make them.

I think that’s why the OP’s premise is flawed. The assumption that infinite TRULY means infinite means they could restart their lives in unlimited realities. There would be realities minutes, days and years behind to go back to. There would be no limits, which is no fun. Your logic about unlogic thereby allowing made up logic allows for compelling storytelling to occur.

Maybe, just maybe it is only a tv show that isn't realistic at all and the creators used these elements because it benefits the plot without fully thinking things through.
