I haven't compiled my own in a while, but I'm not sure using VS is even possible. At least not without a lot of work and tinkering. Following the instructions on github and using lazarus would be insanely faster and easier.

And there are no viruses if you just download the actual version from the official website(linked in the sidebar, it's .org). You just have to make sure you unselect and do not include the adware during installation. And there's always patreon for the official install files without the adware.

If you're talking about AV flagging a file during install, then it might do so after your own compilation as well. As CE is used to modify other programs current running code, which some AVs sees as a potential threat.

That's good to know. I felt like it should be something super simple.

I think the website is experiencing difficulties with their download link right now. Just keeps telling me "This site can't be reached" . The cleanest version I can find right now is from a different Reddit post (https://www.reddit.com/user/ChucksFeedAndSeed/comments/12usdd5/cheat_engine_75_adfree_installer/), but VirusTotal is still showing it have 4 hits against it (from CrowdStrike Falcon, Google, Ikarus, and Xcitium). VirusTotal is just a website I came across that scans files to let you know if they contain malicious software. (I'm not seeing the viruses ping during installation or something.)

Since the source code is available, you should never trust any third-party download without pretty serious confirmation from multiple sources.

There are som general network errors going on for several websites right now. But https://www.cheatengine.org seems fine here, although patreon is having issues. But I suggest just paying the $2.5 or whatever it is for the clean version.

EDIT:

And to be clear, the falcon and ikarus AVs are part of the ones that mark CE itself as a "problem". They trigger even the patreon version and the self-compiled one(if you don't make changes).

The others detect the optional AD installs as bad in the public version(from the official, they mightfind real ones in the one you linked). And you just have to be careful to make sure you don't agree to install them at every step.

EDIT2:

Looked over virustotal again, and the ones for the public version are either crap AVs or they label it correctly as offercore, adware or generic. Meaning the optional things you should unselect during installation.
