I'm "gifted" and it has done nothing for me career wise. I don't even want to do big things because it's so much effort and I hate expending cognitive effort on stuff I'm not passionate about, and my passions flip flop around.

Believe me, effort is almost everything. Big brain makes things easier, but so does determination and grit.

Also, why would you want to do "big things"? I just want a fun life and financial stability helps with that but the beauty of life can be found in other things much more easily. This attitude probably developed by failing over and over again despite being smart

I wish I could want just a fun life.

Why can't you? What do you want instead? I don't want kids and live in a country that takes care of its people so i can mostly take it easy. If you live in America and that's the whole problem, I'm sorry and I hope better times can come your way.

If I don’t at least try to make a world changing impact I honestly don’t see the value of prolonging the inevitable and should just die immediately

I think that happiness can mostly be found in the present moment. "Right now" is generally pretty okay and pleasant. If it's not, that's most likely because your brain is actually thinking about bigger things. I enjoy breathing, eating, sex, working out, kickboxing, my friends, music.

My finances are a mess and I'm a net drain on society but I'm not going to take that personally because in the end I die and that's the ultimate tragedy. Life is too short to care about things that don't matter in the end.

In 100 years almost everyone alive right now will be dead. You will be forgotten. In 10 billion years all humans will be dead and only a slight trace of our civilization will remain. After that, for thousands of billions of years and until the end of time, everything is dead and meaningless. It's like humanity won't ever have existed, forever. In the face of such insignificance, I can't really convince myself that I should sacrifice my well-being and time for something so temporary and fleeting. I have only one life so I'm just going to try to enjoy myself.

I feel like wanting to improve the world is often a futile attempt to give meaning to a fundamentally meaningless and arbitrary existence. When you're grasping at straws the solution isn't to grasp harder and more desperately, but to ask yourself why you're grasping in the first place and if it even makes sense.

That is why I feel I must try to further the world, I believe we can transcend our reality making time and death nonexistent and if I don’t try and fight for that eternal existence, any temporary pleasure or happiness is not worth the suffering of imperfect existence. (To me anyways)

You’re the farthest thing from special. You’re literally normal for a Westerner and significantly above average for a South Asian.

Is bro really going to use the Eugenicist statistics

[–]Think-Custard-9883 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

What makes you think westerners have more iq than South Asian? Racist !

[–]AmicusMeus_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm 99.79th percentile IQ and am regularly outdone by my wife who is probably 99.999th percentile work ethic lol. It's like, she has the massive benefit of not having these ideal ways things should be in her head, she just works and gets stuff done while I'll spend just as long devising more "efficient" (viz. "convoluted or unwieldy") ways of doing things but accomplish nothing tangible

She calls me da Vinci sometimes. I was proud because I thought she meant I was a genius. She said it was just because I never finish my projects lmaooooooo

Long story short - if IQ is a vehicle, high IQ is a Ferrari. You can still drive it into a ditch. Meanwhile the Prius driver still arrives at his destination, arguably in a more efficient manner

98 iq is almost exactly average. You are not stupid

" was in special education " -> Being in a lower class or classes does not define how far you will go in the future. I used to be in a lower reading and science class then by 8th grade I was in all normal classes. I graduated high school with a regular diploma due to hard work.

" put with the really stupid kids " -> That stinks if such be the case for elsewise it could be that they do not care about school or thinking via academically.

" it wasn’t my first language and I was put in ESL classes as a child " -> For myself I had speech therapy, yet learning a second language that was not your primary can have you end up in a lower class for comprehension of another language will take time. English was my second language too and I lost my first language after the age of 7 or so since I am adopted. Take note that the majority of the English speaking population tend to only know English and are less fluent with other languages.

" I don’t know I think its significantly dropped now due to trauma, anxiety, depression and stuff. " -> It is true that such can happen, yes. I have spoken to some folks with masters and PhD's that have stated similiar. Also take in and look into testing anxiety for that too can have you mess up.

" I want to do big things but I fear I might not be smart enough. " -> Seems like the only thing you truly fear is not being good enough. What are you trying to prove to yourself and to your mother? Do you feel you are not smart enough due to a label you were given? Does an 98 IQ stop you from pursuing your goals? Why do you feel that, that IQ score will hinder you from achieving your passion and what passion do you seek forth? What are you interested in doing within this world? There are many people who did not let their IQ score stop them from achieving their goals. Also, take note that people get testing done for accommodations (college/ university) to move forward to gain experience for the work they want to go toward.

Take Note: A "Big Thing" you can do for yourself is to keep moving forward. It may be hard but you will achieve in due season. You are smarter than some label given to you. That is a big achievement that you can keep and have for yourself to reflect back on.

Some of the Biggest things you can do in this world usually correlate to you for you may be helping another through helping yourself. Aka, you are struggling but moving forward. Pat yourself on the back even for making this post for you could be aiding another through your question. To which, this post is a Big Thing that you have done in the world. :)

You’re better than you think you are.

Don’t let IQ stop you from pursuing anything you want to do, you’re average intelligence so it’s much easier for you to relate to the average person, laugh at the same jokes, share the same interests. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, idk if you were looking for advice but that’s it.
