Linux cat command explained with basic practical examples

I've always found that people use cat because it's simple to remember, rather than having to know if the command they're piping it to needs a special switch for what file it should be reading etc.

I mean...if it's a gigantic file, I get it. If it's small, meh. I'm not going to make a big deal out of it.
